DESCRIPTION
In today’s fast moving world many people seek their escape in the world of virtual reality. In this reality they can be whoever and do whatever they want. They can buy stuff and derive status from non-existent things.
What would happen when this virtual trend becomes real and blends into our daily lives? Would there still be a need for real products or is a (virtual) suggestion of the product enough? The Stool Chair is the answer to this question.
STATUS
Concept, Prototype
PRODUCT VERSUS SPACE
The Stool Chair is inspired on the game 'Second Life' where people build digital avatars of themselves and derive status from this digital alter ego. The Stool Chair combines the virtual with reality and gives an ordinary stool a second life. The result is a small spatial intervention where just a stool becomes more than a product. The subtle relief hardly attracts any attention, but gets meaning in combination with the stool. The stool is upgraded; It becomes part of the space and gets its own place in the interior.
